Maybe Norweigans just can't write lyrics. That's right. All five million of 'em.

I am home sick again today. However! I am not going to get into my views on Eurovision semifinals. If I want to be healthy, I should avoid such emotional strain.

But I am in a video-embedding phase, and I am truly sorry about that if you read this blog from work. I'm sure it'll pass soon. In the meantime, here is a literal video:

At first I thought it was a good balance to all the Eurovision stuff. I was going to say that it shows that American singers can do zany productions, too, but thanks to wikipedia I now know that it proves no such thing. Step it up, America!

And here's a literal video where the lyrics make more sense than the original version:

I sent the link to that first video (Literal Version of Total Eclipse of the Heart) to your mother yesterday evening, demanding that she watched it. Possibly that was the exact same moment you were embedding the video in your blog! I'm too lazy to figure out the time difference, but it's close enough to be eerie.

Hahaha. She was the first person I thought of when I saw it. I don't know what that says about her.

We are 11 hours ahead of California.

What it says about you and PJ is that you know my sense of humor really, really well. Music videos are fun exactly because so many of them are so bad. The poor director, faced with (most likely) ridiculous lyrics and (in the case of much of the 80's) over the top instrumentation and singing, has to try and do something visually interesting, and, well, it's a recipe for disaster. There are also a handful of really interesting or beautiful ones. Most are between these two extremes, meaning extremely boring.
Americans have not done as well in the crazy over-the-top video arena, but we can thank Guns and Roses Cold November Rain for perhaps the greatest bad video of all time.
And let's not forget R. Kelly, whose Stuck in the Closet song cycle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8IVlfyIc8g belongs in the literal video hall of fame because he has absolutely no idea how hilarious it is.

You know, having watched the entire cycle to date (22 episodes) on youtube, I have to say that the first few might have been serious, but there is no way that anything after the 5th is not intentionally funny.

What? I was home sick.
